Stories That Support
Real Life Learning
Young children learn through stories, play and everyday experiences. The Growing Together Collection was created to help families introduce important feelings, routines and new experiences in a gentle, reassuring and child-friendly way.
Each story follows the same five friends Milly, Belle, Rosy, Ben and George. They learn, grow and overcome everyday challenges together. The familiar characters, simple language and colourful illustrations help children understand each subject and feel less alone.
Each storybook also has a companion colouring book. These allow children to revisit what they have learned through colouring and simple creative activities. Families can read, colour, talk and learn together at a pace that feels comfortable for their child.
When My Days Get Tough
Children can experience many different emotions but may not always understand how they feel or know how to express it.
When My Days Get Tough introduces children to five common feelings: tiredness, sadness, anger, nervousness and loneliness. Through the experiences of five friends, children discover simple and comforting things they can try to help themselves feel calmer and better.
The story can help families begin gentle conversations about emotions. Parents and carers can ask children how they are feeling, what helps them and offer a gentle solution when a day feels difficult.
The companion colouring book reinforces these reassuring messages through short story prompts and colouring pages. As children colour, families can talk about the characters’ feelings and help children discover their own special ways to feel better.
When We Learn Our Toilet Routine
Learning to use the toilet is an important milestone, but it can sometimes feel confusing or overwhelming for a young child.
When We Learn Our Toilet Routine breaks the experience down into six clear and manageable steps. The five friends learn to listen to their bodies, get ready, sit on the toilet, wipe, get dressed and flush, and wash their hands.
The gentle story helps children understand what will happen and reminds them that learning takes time. It encourages confidence, independence and pride in every little step.
The companion colouring book gives children another opportunity to become familiar with the routine. By colouring the pictures and revisiting each step, children can remember the sequence and feel more prepared to practise it in everyday life.
When I Started Forest School
Starting Forest School can be exciting, but unfamiliar places, people and activities may also make some children feel nervous.
When I Started Forest School helps children understand what a Forest School day might look like. Milly and her friends explore nature, build dens, look for minibeasts, make mud pies, meet animals and enjoy many more outdoor adventures.
The story can help children feel prepared and excited about taking part. It also encourages curiosity, confidence, creativity and a love of learning outdoors.
The companion colouring book allows children to revisit the Forest School adventure through colouring and simple activities. It can be enjoyed before a child begins Forest School to help them prepare, or afterwards to encourage them to remember and talk about their own experiences.
Learning and Growing Together
The Growing Together Collection is designed to support the conversations families already have at home. The books do not expect children to learn everything straight away. Instead, they offer gentle guidance, familiar examples and reassuring messages that children can return to whenever they need them.
By reading the stories and enjoying the companion colouring books together, families can help children:
- Recognise and talk about their feelings
- Understand important everyday routines
- Feel prepared for unfamiliar experiences
- Develop confidence and independence
- Remember learning through colouring and play
- Celebrate every small step of their progress
Every child learns in their own way and at their own pace. Sometimes, a simple story shared with someone they trust can make a new experience feel a little easier.
